Mayor's Friendship Walk
Presented by Cascade HeartWhat:
5K or 10K easy walk through Vancouver's historically rich central city,
featuring Officer's Row, Pearson Air Museum, Fort Vancouver National
Historic Site, and the Renaissance Trail on the Columbia River. Go your own
pace, all walkers are winners and will receive an award.
Where: Registration and Packet
Pick-up for both routes will be at the Hilton Hotel, 301 West 6th
Street, Vancouver Washington 98660.
Start: The start will be from
4 pm - 6 pm. The Mayor will greet the walkers with a brief speech and
send-off at 4 pm.
Finish will be: Hilton Hotel,
301 West 6th Street, Vancouver Washington 98660.
Schedule: All events take
place at the Discovery Walk Festival at
except where noted.
- Children's Culture Parade:
Historic Reserve, 9:30-10:30 am. Spectators welcome.
International guests are invited to walk this 3K walk with the
schoolchildren of Vancouver and Evergreen school districts as they
celebrate their cultural roots.
- Registration/packet pick-up from
noon - 6:00 pm

- 6:00 pm
- Walk finish: All walkers must be
off the trail by 9 pm.

Lewis and Clark Walk
Presented by Realvest
Walk enjoying Vancouver parks, greenways, and
neighborhoods. Walkers may choose their distance: 6K, 10K, 20K, 32K, or 42K
(marathon). Non-competitive, walkers go their own pace. Each walker receives
a medal, marathoners also receive a patch.

Family Fun 6K Walk
Presented by Southwest Washington
Medical Center
Families
and beginner walkers will enjoy our Saturday 6K Family Fun Walk, 10 am
Saturday April 26, 2008. The walk has Fun Stops each mile of the 3.8
mile route through downtown and uptown Vancouver. Enjoy freebies,
snacks, and entertainment as you learn the joys of walking. Everyone
is a winner and receives the Discovery Walk award medal. Cost is $10
for those over age 12, free for those 12 and under (must be accompanied by
an adult participant). Discounts for registering early.

and 32K Walks. Those planning to finish in under 6 hours (runners, walk/run or racewalkers) please start at 8 am.

- 8 am - 12 pm: Start for the 6K and 10K
Walks
- 10 am: Family Fun 6K Walk start
- 4 pm: All walkers must be off

Walk, Bike, Swim

What:
Enjoy Vancouver
neighborhoods and parks. Non-competitive, walkers go their own pace. Each

Bikers will enjoy a 25 kilometer or 50
kilometer trail
around western Vancouver.
Two 300-meter swim events at a local pool in the afternoon.
Where: Registration/packet pickup
start and finish at the Hilton Hotel, 301 West 6th Street, Vancouver
Washington 98660.Vancouver, Washington. The 42K, 32K, and 21K
walkers will board a shuttle bus for the short ride to where they begin
walking. Closing Ceremonies in the hotel ballroom.
On the route: Water available at checkpoints, approximately every 5
kilometers.
Schedule:
- Throughout day: entertainment, food and snack sales, door
prizes.
- 6:30 am - 12 pm: Registration/Packet
Pick-up
- 6:45 - 7:00 am: Start for 32K Walk.
Buses begin loading at 6:45 am to shuttle to the start point.
Sorry - no dogs.
- 8 am - 9 am: Start for 21K Walk.
Buses begin loading at 7:45 am. Sorry - no dogs.
- 8 am - 12 pm: Start for the 6K and
10K Walks. Dogs allowed, but not in the hotel or other
buildings.
- Bikes: 9 am - 12 pm: Start for the 25K and 50K
Bikes. Helmets required. Some rental bikes available for $10 additional.
- Swims start 1:30 – 3:45 pm, finish by 4
pm. Shuttle provided to and from pool. Swim Shuttle Van to/from
pool Operates 1:00 - 4:15pm, approximately every 20 minutes. Last
shuttle to pool at 3:30pm. The van departs from the Columbia St. Hilton
Convention Center entrance.

Award
All participants on Saturday and Sunday receive the medal
award the first year they participate in the Discovery Walk. The medal is a cast
antique bronze logo attached to a red and white stripe ribbon drape. The logo is a
globe to symbolize the international nature of this International Marching League event.
Near the pole, the first trans-polar flight is coming from Russia to land in
Vancouver, Washington. At the bottom of the globe is a caravan of other symbols of
Vancouver history: Fort Vancouver the first permanent settlement in the Oregon
Territory. Covered wagons depicting the Oregon Trail. Lewis and Clark in their
canoe - they camped in Vancouver on their journey down the Columbia to the Pacific.
And a masted ship representing the explorers Captain Vancouver and Lt. Broughton.
The second and third you participate you receive a gold
star to add to the ribbon drape.
On the fourth year you participate you receive a new medal, silver and
enamel cloisonné. Fifth and sixth year participants receive a
silver-colored arrowhead attachment.
On the seventh year you participate you receive a gold medal. On the eighth
and ninth years you will get a compass pin attachment. On the 11th and
12th year you will receive a triangle attachment.
On your 10th year you will receive a new medal.

All participants also receive an award for the Welcome Walk on Friday.
Those completing the International Marching League
requirements of at least 20K on both Saturday and Sunday will receive a certificate in
addition to the award.
Marathon finishers on either Saturday or Sunday receive a
patch with the logo as well as their award.
Bike participants and Swim participants receive an award.
